My weekend of hermiting paid off. I think I wrote over 5,000 words. And I’m getting close to finishing the “first draft” of my three episodes. After that, if I’m still not over 50,000 words, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Sometimes the second draft ends up being more words, sometimes it ends up being less words. It depends on if I’m really done adding in all the action and details I need.
If I *am* done putting in all those details, my job is to start *cutting down* words, not bulking them up, because I always overwrite. I overwrite because I’m not sure which details are the important ones. Its only after I have them all stuffed in there, everything that could be relevant, that I’m in a position to start judging what really *is* relevant. And only after I’ve figure out what really is relevant, that I realize there’s stuff missing, the subtle details, that need to be added in. All while I’m busily *cutting DOWN* the number of words.
We’ll see. Some good stuff this weekend. Some surprising stuff. I never know what’s going to come out of these fingers until I write it, sometimes.
